Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - May 11, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta READ.... THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD 'CHINOOK' SOUTH ALBERTA'S LAMEST RURAL CIRCULATION The Lcthlnidge Herald TELEVISION GUIDE KINQKOIN LAUHOCRCTTC FRIDAY. MAY LISTINGS FOR SATURDAY, MAY 11 TO FRIDAY, MAY 17 Science program- Ideas explores the world of Physics and Beyond in a seven-program series, Mondays at p.m. starting on CBC Radio. Early in this century two revolutionary principles were enunciated in Physics: the Quantum Principle and the Principle of Relativity. These two principles profoundly altered our understanding of the universe -and required a fundamental reappraisal of the f nature of understanding itself. They emerged within the scientific pattern initiated by Copernicus 500 years ago but, paradoxically, the developments of these ideas today suggests that a "post-Copernican" age is at hand. This coral reef is home to some of the world's most interesting creatures and CTV's Untamed World visits these magnificent seascapes in the episode Underwater, telecasting Sunday at p.m. Throughout the world these reefs attract as much attention from visitors as they do from scientists studying nature's most beautiful environments. Every animal that lives here is at the same time both prey and predator. Each has evolved a unique A look into man's past The natives of Botswana in Southwest Africa are believed to be going through a phase of social evolution comparable to that which early man went through years ago: a change-over from a hunting-gathering society to simple herding and agriculture. Wednesday at 8 p.m. CTV telecasts the National Geographic Society Special: Bushman of the Kalahari, a look at a primitive culture being changed by encroaching civilization. John Marshall, research associate in the department of anthropology at Brandeis University, has, with his family, made a series of trips since the early to Botswana which was then Bechuanaland to study the Bushmen. .Mr. Marshall returned in 1972 for the first time since 19H. In this fascinating look at a primitive people, John records changes in a particular Bushman family in the Kalahari region over the past 20 years. Co-operation and companionship are particularly strong among Bushmen. Talking, laughing, joking, good manners, hunting and gift- giving are all social means by which the Bushmen maintain the group organization which is so necessary to their very existence and survival. Sunday, May 12 talent either for catching food or for not getting caught. Two men who are studying these reefs, gathering data on the coral and its many inhabitants, are Dr, Sebastian Holzberg and Dr. Hans Walter Fricke. Equipped with waterproof camera, an underwater slate and sculp invade the land of colorful coral. The colour is not merely decoration but, like everything else in nature, is a method of survival. The Untamed World is produced by Peter Backhatis for the CTV television network.
