Douglas G. L. Cunnington, who sat for the shortest duration ever in Parliament, died here at age 88. Col. Cunnington was elected as a Conservative for Calgary West in a 1940 byelection to fill the seat vacated by R. B. Becett. He sat in the Commons for three hours in January, 1940, before a general election was called. He was defeated. Col. Cunnington served on city council from 1934 to 1938. During the First World War, he served with the Canadian forces and won the Military Cross. He won the Order of the British Empire in the Second World War.
