The 'wedding of the is just one of the events featured in the CTV special series, 'The Fabulous Sixties 1968', airing Sunday, May 10. Fabulous Sixties Looks Back Remember Events Of 1968? The Fabulous Sixties 1968, the ninth episode in CTV's look back at the incredible years of the decade just closed, will be presented on the CTV Televi- sion Network, Sunday May 10, p.m. (W5 will be pre- empted on this-occasion.) By the time 1968 dawned the Sixties had already proven to be a decade filled with, stunning events, and this year was to be no exception. Riots were once again the or- der of the day and students at both Berkeley and Columbia brought their universities grinding to a halt. In Paris the entire city was thrown into chaos by a general strike that involved both students and workers and brought fame to "Danny the Red." And in the U.S. the assassination of Mar- tin Luther King Jr. set off riot- ing in black communities all across the country. Later that year another wave of rioting broke out this time the scene was Chicago and the occasion was t b e Democratic National Convention. In Canada, Pierre Elliott Trudeau was elected leader of the Liberal Party and took over as Prime Minister from retir- ing Lester Pearson. While in the U.S. Lyndon Johnson an- nounced that he would neither seek nor accept his party's nomination for another term as president. Otner headlines that year in- cluded the assassination of Robert Kennedy while he was campaigning in California; the Russian invasion of Chechoslo- vakia and the thousands of chil- dren dying daily of starvation in war-torn Biafra, Two weddings made the headlines that year. Jackie Kennedy surprised the world when she became the wife of Greek shipping magnate Aris- totle Onassis and the marriage of Julie Nixon and David Ei- senhower joined two of the Uni- ted States' most prominent poli- tical families.
