DIVORCE CASE HISTORY NO. 2; rape spouse for every penny She waited a whole year lo obtain a divorce because "of legal complications, attended court six times without her husband showing up and was interrogated by her husband's lawyer who asked personal and ridiculous questions without hei own lawyer coining to her aid Such was the cause of Audrey- Massong, 2240 Major Magratii Dr Looking back on the mental torture she suffered ob- taining a divorce four years ago. Mis Msssong says she is now ''very down" on lawyers and present divorce lavis. "f don't want lo see any wo- man or man go through the di- vorce situation as it sils today She says divorce should be handled as a humane routine rather than as a disgusting ac- tion that has to bo dragged thiojgh insinuations of filth. Bad feeling She also husbands should not be raped" for every penny because it just makes the situation between husband and wife woire. If the husband has obtained the right to visit the children, bad feeling caused by financial problems can cause further conflict. ''In our case, mj husband's share of the was pietly well wiped out by lav.yci feos and court she said. Mrs. Massong says that at 19 years of age, from a poor home, and a country school, she was veiy naive about marriage "The family didn't have anv money so I wasn't able to take post high school she said. "I guess I did the noxt best tiling and got married lo escape the situation even though I didn't know that was what I was doing at the time." Two weeks after being mar- ried, she received the shock of her life when her husband went to a wedding dance with- out asking her. She says before the marriage she v. as a ghlfriend. After the wedding she became a mother image to her husband. No outings After a few years the situa- tion became unbearable be- cause her husband wouldn't take her out or provide money to operate the home properly. Finally they separated. "I was completely ignorant and stupid as to what I should do next and I was so emotion- ally upset that I ended up in the hospital for three she says. Her doctor referred her to the provincial welfare depart- ment who helped her obtain a lawyer. The lawyer wanted from her before he would take the case, so she withdrew ?200 she had set aside as insurance for dental work for her three chil- dren still at home. One son was already out on his own. Her first lawyer encouraged her to sign away her rights to the family home in order to ob- tain alimony maintenance pay- ments of per child and for herself. She signed but hasn't sesn much of the money. She alleges that her husband escaped making the payments because he put himself in debt when he remarried. Her second lawyer also sug- gested she send a truck to the house to pick up half the fur- niture that was rightly hers. __ i i i i i i i i i i i i i i IS THE TIME FOR YOU TO ORDER REPAIR REPLACE YOUR CAMPER, CAMPERETTE or INDUSTRIAL CAB WE SPECIALIZE IN CABINETS AND MOBILE HOME ACCESSORIES M.I.
