Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - May 1, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta THE IETHBRIDGE HERALD, FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1970 Hope Headliner NBC-TV's Bob Hope will headline a show in behalf of .the U.S. Olympic Fund Raising Committee on May 9 at the University of Maryland, Col- lege Park, MD. The-show, also featuring Les Brown and his Band Henown, singer Mari- lyn Maye and the Vogues, is ctesigned to raise money for the 1972 United States Olympic teams. Another Grammy? Composer conductor Henry Mancini is the champion Gram- my Awards having snared 18 statuettes. He'll have a chance for another one, when he appears on the NBC-TV May 7 special, "The Best on Rec- ord: The Grammy Awards with his love theme from the motion picture, "Ro- meo" and in contention for the "Record of the Year" Grammy. The Derby will be presented Saturday, May 2, the Preakness Saturday, May 16 and the Belmont Satur- day, June 6. Broadcast time will be p.m. on Channel 7 for all three races.________ Kentucky Derby To Be Telecast Canadians can watch the run- ning of the most famous horse race in North America when CBC-TV presents live color cov- erage of the historic Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in Louisville, Saturday, May 'j at p.m. on channel 7. The 1WO Kentucky Derby will be the 96th running of this clas- sic race, and 10 to 12 of the fastest three-year-olds in North America are expected to com- pete. The purse is added with at least guaranteed to the winner. The Derby is a mile-and-a-quarter in length and the horses carry equal weights of 126 pounds. The first in the famous triple crown of racing, the Deby will be followed on CBC-TV May 16 by coverage of-The Preakness, and June 6 by the Belmont Stakes, the other two "jewels" in the crown. a richly visual and historically fascinating col- DT film series from Britain, will be telecast on the CBC TV network, beginning in mid-May.
