CALGARY, Alberta T2H 103 Ml Lie detector specialist for RCMP PEACE RIVER (CP -Peace River officer has been appointed the first RCMP lie detector specialist in Alberta, it was announced today. Const. Dick l'.eynolds assumes the position Anril 1 and will be based at K Division headquarters in Edmonton. City police forces in Edmonton and Calgary now have lie detector equipment, however, the provincial RCMP had relied on lie detector specialists from British Columbia to tour Alberta when required. Const. Reynolds has completed polygraph training with the New York state police and the Michigan police force. A police spokesman at subdivision headquarters here said starting immediately the field of lie detection will be expanded within the force in Alberta. Under present laws a person does not have to comply with a police request to take the test, however, it may be advantageous for a person to have one in certain cases. Information gathered by police using the He detector does not necessarily mean it can be entered as evidence but this has been done on occasion in Eastern Canada, the | police spokesman said.
