Earnings increased for bread salesmen CALGARY (CP) Bread salesmen of Local 980 of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union had their weekly earnings boosted by an average of when a new two-year contract was signed. The new agreement, which expires April 30, 1975, covers McGavin Toastmaster Sales and sales related personnel in Calgary and Red Deer. Employees other than bread salesmen will receive wage increases totalling a week. The food prices review board has been critical of the windfall increases received by bakery salesmen because of the increased prices of bakery products on which their commission income is based. A spokesman for McGavin Toastmaster said the wage increases will "just be one more of a long list of cost increases affecting the price of bread." Prior to the settlement, salesmen were getting a base pay of a week and nine per cent commission. This meant every two-cent increase in the price of bread gave them an average increase of about a week and more for sweet goods. Under the new contract, base pay is a week with a four-per cent commission rate. For every two-cent increase in the price of bread, the average increase is about a week. The contract will bring the average weekly earnings of a salesman to or from about City salesmen will work a 40-hour week rather than a 44-hour week and rural salesmen will work a 44-hour week in four days with overtime pay. Kissinger's departure for Moscow this weekend puts a decisive end to any chance that he might squeeze in an Ottawa trip' in March, as he had once hoped. Now an April visit also has begun to appear unlikely. Department officials say the possibility of a visit next month has not been ruled out entirely, but they acknowledge that his schedule looks full. He is due to return to Wash- ington next Thursday and meets the next day with Defence Minister Moshe Dayan of Israel. Then he will try to take a much-delayed holiday, probably in Acapulco. Kissinger is expected to be in New York for at least two days starting April 10 for a United Nations meeting on resources and to be host to Latin American and Caribbean foreign ministers in Washington April 17-18 afe a follow-up to their recent meeting in Mexico. TO ATTEND OPENING He is also likely to attend opening sessions in Atlanta of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States. Kissinger has had a standing invitation to Ottawa since last September, almost as long as he has been secretary of state. When External Affairs Minister Mitchell Sharp came to Wash- ington on Feb. 10 for an inter- natipnal oil conference, Kissinger is reported to have said he hoped to visit Ottawa in March. Although there are said to be few burning issues in Canada-U.S. relations await- ing Kissinger's personal attention, an early visit would provide an opportunity to formalize a pair of agreements now awaiting signature. One involves bilateral airline rights, the other contingency plans for pollution in coastal waters. ANDERSON BROS. (ALVIN MARVIN) Farm Auction Sale CARMANGAY, ALTA.
