VICTORIA (CP1 Amcad-l Tiiciits lo landlord and tenant legislation have teen, intro- duced in the British Columbia lefSslature, giving greater -pro- tection la tenants and selling up landlord and tenant advisory bureaus around the province. Attorney general Alex Mac- dona Id said the main change in the Landlord and Tenant Act is that there may lis only one rent increase a year. Landlords now have the power to increase rent four turns a year. And under the amended act, rent increases will be tied to the premises, not the tenant. Previously, rent could be raised as soon as a tenant moved out. Now this will be possible only once a year. As the act stands now, there may be no increases in rent during tt'.c (irst year of a ten- ant's occupancy, but after that only three months' notice is re- quired.
