Minister Trudeau told the Commons Tuesday. But he again declined to give any details on how the negotiations between the government and the oil company are proceeding. There was no doubt the government could buy the shares but the money for the transaction would be subject to the approval of Parliament. Max Salts man (NDP-Waterloo) asked why the government had not followed the same procedure in blocking the sale of Denison Mines by simply stating it must remain in Canadian hands? Mr. Trudeau replied thlat under the constitution, the federal government had jurisdiction over uranium. This was hot so in the case of petroleum. Jack Horner (PC-Xrowfoot) asked Mr. Trudeau whether Home Oil could still negotiate its sale to other Canadian companies if it decided it did not want to negotiate with the government.
