IJr. I'at-tersovi told of the honnr he [ell in hein.u; able to say thai he was addressing the first n-fn's meeting in the new Association building. It, in itself, stood for the Very best in men and did the men of the city credit. t'ontinning, he prc-'^ented his subject, "The Three-Thirds of a Man." I^ike everything else, a man must have lliree-lhirrts. These are the physical, the mental and the spiri-! tual. If the.se are all developed he is tlic perfect man. l?i;t some of us are imperfect, and are only one-third of a man. Such a person is developed only in his physical nature, and is the unnatural man. These are few in number. Others have both physical and mental natures developed and are natural men, but still have only two of the three-thirds required. It is only when all three-tliirds are developed in their proper relation to one another that the supernatural man, the perfect man stands revealed. The development of any side of a child into the perfect standard of manhood rc(|uircs three things ; food, air and exercise. in physicaK development good food is necessary ; not angel cake or the modern breakfast food, but nourishing' food like oatmeal or potatoes. Plenty of good fresh air also is required. Lethbridge, he said, seemed to have a good supply. Exercise, too, must not be overlooked in this perfect physical development, in order that one part of the body may not be developed at the expense of others. But higher than mere physical development is mental development Quoting Burns, he said, "There is nothing great on earth but man, and the greatest part of nran is mine." The n-,ind must he fed as well as the body, not with mushy literature, but with the most nourishing that can be obtained.
