Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - March 12, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta THE LETHMIDGE HERALD - FRIDAY, MARCH 12. 1*71 Two years to research report Documentary on mid-Canada On Sunday, March 14 CBC-TV's Weekend series will focus on the 'real North', Mid-Canada, a fragile but vital frontier stretching the breadth of the nation 100 to 400 miles northward from the populated, industrialized ribbon along the Canada - U.S. border. Mid-Canada is considered by many to be the North of the present and the immediate future. It's an area without major manufacturing or agricul- ture. Its economy is dependent on mining, forestry, tourism and fishing. It comprises the constituencies of 51 Members of Parliament and the borne of nearly 3,000,000 Canadians. CBC Weekend's report on Mid-Canada took nearly two years to research. It will be telecast Sunday, March 14 from 10 to 11 p.m. with Kay Sigur-jonsson and Pierre Nadeau as hosts. Wednesday, March 17 The program reflects on the political, economic and social problems of Mid-Canada and turns up some interesting facts on the region and its residents. The full - hour report was filmed the breadth of Mid-Canada from Churchill Falls, Nfld. to Rouyn-Noranda to Kitimat, B.C. The documentary was produced in English and French for showing on both the English and French television networks of the CBC. Psychiatry examined in new series Psychiatry for the community-or getting "medicine-for-the-mind" out of the expensive, exclusive consulting room and into the community - is perhaps the single most important new "thrust" facing that science in the 1970s. Beginning Monday, March 15 at 10:00 p.m., CBC-TV's The Nature Of Things will begin a new three part series on this newest and most practical application of psychiatry. Filmed in Montreal, the half-hour programs will deal with real-life individuals, who are undergoing or have taken psychological treatment. We will meet their psychiatrists and the various other persons associated with mental health treatment: the psychologist, the so* rial worker, the medical student, the mm, and even the policeman. Arte Johnson stars in own special on NBC The hel meted German romps with a line of dancing girls, the slick-haired Russian leads a naval battle and the Little Old Man walks through the screen of a Swedish movie, in "Ver-r-ry Interesting," Arte Johnson's first special, guest-starring Bing Crosby and Elke Sommer, on the NBC Television Network Thursday, March 18, in color, at 9 p.m. on KRTV Channel 9 Great Falls. Also guest-staiTing are Billy De Wolfe, Joe Flynn, Nancy Kulp and Peter Marshall. The German, the Russian and the elderly gent all are played by Arte, who also appears as The Boring Professor and, for a change, himself. Spy thriller seen Saturday Academy Performance presents "The Quiller Memorandum", a spy thriller set in modern-day Germany. George Segal appears as an agent hired to uncover a neo-Nazi group who plan to take over power. The film which is based upon the Adam Hall novel of the same name telecasts over CTV on Saturday, March 13, 9:00 p.m. on Channel 13. Also starring are Max von Sydow and Senta Berger with George Sanders and Robert Helpmann appearing in guest star roles. RIGHTS ACQUIRED A United States film company has acquired screen rights to Bashful Billionaire, Albert Ger-ber's biography of Howard Hughes.
