Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - March 10, 1973, Lethbridge, Alberta 10 Till UTHBR1DGE HERA1D Sulucdoy, Murcli 10 ,1973 LCI wins opener EDMONTON The defending champion Lclh- bridge Collegiate Institute Clipper Queens opened the Se- nior A High School Girls' bas- ketball championship with a SC- SI win over Calgary's Bishop Carroll Friday night. The victory for Letlibridge, winner of the championship for three of the last four years, was led by Debbie Borzel with 20 points. Ann Dewit scored 11 for Bishop Carroll. Three other teams advanced along the A side ot the straight knockout competition. Cal- gary's Ernest Manning defeat- ed Edmonton's M. F.. Lazerte 4240 as Diane Beirele scored 21 points, St. Joseph's of Grande Prairie blasted Salis- bury Composite of Sherwood Park 81-18, and Edmonton's Jasper Place dumped Medicine Hat 50-20. The competition continues to- day. Badminton tournament Sunday, March 25 will mark the annual Civic Centre Bad- minton Club annual tourna- ment. The one-day event mil be held at the Civic Centre. Open events in men's and women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles as well as consolations in all events will be run off. Entries will be accepted up to Noon, Saturday, March 24. An entry fee of an event, or for three events, should ac- company all entries.
