LONDON (Reuter) Selwyn Lloyd, a former Conservative foreign secretary, was confirmed as Speaker of the House of Commons today when the new Parliament met for the first time since Thursday's gen- eral election. Lloyd, who first became Speaker in 1970, displayed the traditional reluctance, having to be dragged to his chair by his proposer and seconder. Harold Wilson, the new Labor prime minister, and Conservative Edward Heath, now the opposition leader, were cheered by their party supporters when they took their seats. Wilson said: "It is going to be an exciting Parliament for all of us." NOT ACCIDENTAL NEW YORK (AP) A psychiatrist has testified that he did not believe the death of rock singer Janis Joplin by a narcotic overdose in 1970 was accidental. The remark by Dr. Harold Trigg came as a comment on evidence offered earlier by Dr. Edmund Rothschild, a New York specialist who examined Miss Joplin 10 months before her death. Rothschild had said the singer told him she had overdosed on heroin six times during an 18-month period, turning blue on one occasion. "Considering six overdoses, one where the individual turned blue, that would not be my conception of what is accidental said Dr. Trigg. Trigg testified in state Supreme Court in a suit brought by Albert Grossman Management Co. seeking payment on a accidental death insurance policy taken out on Miss Jop- lin. The firm acted as agent for the singer The Associated Indemnity Corp. says her death Oct. 4, 1970, was a suicide and contends it had never received her correct medical history.
