28 - THE IETHBRIDOE HERALD - Saturday, March 6, 1971 What's a PM call his father-in-law? VANCOUVER (CP) - The newly-wed prime minister of Canada leaned across the oak table at his wedding reception and started to talk to his father-in-law. "Mr. Sinclair ..." he began. "Mr. Prime Minister" interjected Mr. Sinclair. "Every other Liberal in Canada calls roe Jimmy. You are my son-in-law-I think you can do the same." So, for the first time since he started courting Margaret Sinclair three years ago, Pierre Elliott Trudeau got to be on first name terms with James Sinclair. "He had been calling me Mr. Sinclair all evening" said the father of the bride. "When be started to speak to me at the wedding reception I thought. . . hang it all, every other Liberal in Canada calls me Jimmy, surely my son-in-law can do the same." Mr. Sinclair, a former federal fisheries' minister talked as he relaxed, glass in hand, after the reception at the Cap-ilano Golf and Country Club. MADE FINE CHOICE An understandably proud father, Mr. Sinclair said the prime minister is to be congratulated on his choice of a bride. "She is a damned fine girl, and will make a wonderful prime minister's wife," he said. He said he is "very very proud and happy" to have the prime minister as a son-in-law. "I have always had great respect and admiration for him. I think he is a wonderful man." Mr. Sinclair laughingly noted that about 2i hours be- fore his wedding, Mr. Trudeau bad made a speech lauding women and pledging support for their fight for equal rights. The speech was made at a Liberal fund-raising dinner Wednesday at the Royal York Hotel im Toronto. Boy shoots dad who said 'God will bring me back9 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - An eight-year-old boy shot his father to death Thursday when the father told his son God would bring him back to life in three days. Police said Earl G. Denson first told his son, Earl, to stab him with a butcher knife, but the son refused. Denson later handed Mm a .38-calibre revolver, placed the child's finger on the trigger and commanded the youth to shoot him. Police said they believe the boy did not fully understand what was being asked of him and merely was doing what his father commanded him to do. Denson had apparently been feeling despondent over the loss of his job and the repossession of his automobile, police said. The boy was released to his mother after a brief stay in a detention centre for "protective custody." Police said they would not prosecute the boy because state homicide laws do not cover children under the age of 10. Joked Mr. Siniclair: "That should have tipped everybody off right away that he was planning something like this." SECRECY REQUESTED Mr. Sinclair said secrecy surrounding the wedding was requested by the prime minister. "It was very wise to keep it quiet," he said. "Otherwise we would have had protesters lined up outside and the whole thing would have been a mess." Mr. Sinclair praised the press for keeping out of the prime minister's social life. "My daughter and the prime minister met many times and never were they hounded or pressured. "As a result their courtship had the happiest possible ending."
