Phone 327-2097 or 328-0611 quiries into how the Pueblo became the first U.S. ship to strike its colors in enemy presence since the American Civil War. Holbrook, in preparing for his role as Bucher, has been reading every available account of the Pueblo incident, including the book Bucher wrote about it. He's also been screening old news film dips of Bucher's return from 11 months of iinoris-onment by the North Koreans. The films show Bucher arriving by plane in San Diego, Calif., where he was reunited with his wife and met by an army of reporters and military and civilian officials. Holbrook, a lean slow talking man, sat behind a desk in the booklined study of his apartment here and tried to recall his first impressions of those films. "He looked like he was under drugs or badly beaten," the actor said, closing his eyes. "He walked all right, but when he began to speak his face looked really drawn.' "He seemed to have great trouble forming his words, following a line of thought He seemed to be a man under tremendous physical, emotional and mental stress, even to the point of having been crippled in some way." Holbrook pointed at a pile of assorted books and papers on his desk. The collection included a transcript of the Pueblo inquiry held by the House armed services committee. "Im trying to determine just how incapacitated the man was when he came back from North Korea," be said. "The behavior of the man is extremely important to me."
