But until the paperwork is complete, members of King George's nomadic band live on the streets of Chicago as they have on the roadways of cities from Nogales, Ariz., to Washington, D.C., for the last four months. Immigration officials say the gypsies, half of them children, illegally crossed the Mexican border on Feb. 24 near Nogales. Ranging in age from three weeks to 70 years, they wan- dered here in a caravan of nine cars, including two luxury sedans, bought since they left a Dutch Airlines tour in Mexico City.
