Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - June 27, 1972, Lethbridge, Alberta LETHSWDOE 3 Rural youth exchange TlK international exchange rural youth tours to Europe. Australia and New Zealand provide a unique opportunity for young men and women to see the world and to meet and work with people of widely di- versified backgrounds. Sponsored by the Internation- al Agricultural Exchange Asso- ciation in co-operation willi na- tional young farmers' organiza- tions in participating countries, the main purpose of this pro- gram is to facilitate a belter of people in dif- ferent parts of the world through the sharing of educa- tional and cultural values. Upon arrival at the destina- tion, each tour member is as- signed to a farm family where he will work during his stay in that country. He will receive tire going wage for trainees, live with the family and have all his weekends free to travel. To be eligible for one of these tours, the applicant must be over 18 years of age, have a background of practical farming experience, satisfac- tory recommendations from previous employers or teach- ers, be in good health and be approved for a job. Jobs ore arranged by those in charge of the tour in co- operation with national agiicul- tural organizations in the coun- tries to "which a member wants to work. Wishes regarding type of work and the placement of friends near friends are ad- herer! to whenever possible. Tour A 'is a six-month tour direct lo Europe. After a five- day orientation seminar, mem- bers will be placed with fam- ilies in various countries. This tour costs Tour B is a 12-month tour to Europe. Tlie procedure is tire same as for Tour A except that students spend six months with families in two different coun- tries. This tour cosls 1525. Tour C is a six-month tour to Australia and New Zealand. 5t includes a five-day stopover in Denmark where members will be assigned to a host family, and a five-day stopover in Bangkok, Thailand. Participants can choose whether they would rather work in Australia or New Zea- land. There will be a three- day stopover in Denmark on the way back to Canada. The cost is Tour D is also a six-month tour to Australia and New Zea- land. In addition to slopovers in Denmark and Thailand, there will be a one-day stop- over in Singapore. The return trip via Europe will include a one-day stopover in Hong Kong and a six-day stopover in Japan. This lour costs Tour E is a 12-month tour to Australia, New Zealand and Europe. It includes a five-day stopover in Denmark, a live- day stopover in Bangkok and a one-day stopover in Singapore. The return trip to Europe in mid-April" will include a one- day stopover in Hong Kong and a six-day stopover In Japan.
