Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - June 25, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta Much Offered Tourists In Provincial Parks By STEVE BAREHAltf Herald Staff Writer Southern Alberta has many provincial parks all well suited for tourist travellers and camp- ers. About 10 of these parks arc within easy driving distance of Itethbridge, available to those who wish to get away for a few days of swimming, picnicking, boating, hiking or just to enjoy Hie out-of-doors. Park Lake only a 15 min- ute drive from Lethbridge, fea- tures a beautiful tree area ad- jacent to a man made lake. In recent year's, the park has be- come increasingly popular as boating, swimming and water siding spot, supplying southern Albertans and tourists with quiet cool relaxation and still is easily within reach of Leth- bridge's night time activities. WooHord Provincial Park, though one of the smaller parks in the province, maintains a good stop off spot for tourists, located nine miles from Card- ston. Writing-On-Stone Provinc i a 1 Park some 26 miles east of Milk River, a mystic park noted for its Indian writings and paintings, also encompasses the land on which a North West Mounted Police Post was con- structed in 1S7C. The Milk River, named by the famed Lewis and Clark expedi- tion because of its creamy color, wanders through tile park and empties into tlie Missouri River system south into Montana. Taber Provincial tifully shaded with huge cotton- woods, provides an ideal area for picnicking, camping and a pleasant, visit. Only two miles north of Taber, the park enjoys visits from many of the prov- inces finer song birds. Willow Creek Provincial Park is off Highway 2, between Fort Macleod and Calgary, nine miles southwest of Stavely. Designed as a day-use centre, the park has picnic facilities and a playground. Many visitors take time out for a quick dip in the creek that borders the park. Beauvais Lake Provin c i a 3 Park, 15 miles southwest of Pincher Creek, is a lake and park area noted for its excel- lent cold water fishing and sce- nic qualities. Alpine flowers bloom throughout the park dur- ing summer months. Cypress Hills Provincial Park, the largest park in the provin- cial system, has 78 square miles of beauty in the midst of the Prairie wilderness. It is adja- cent to the Saskatchewan bor- der in southeastern Alberta.
