(CP) The Ontario government has refused to consider building "buggy underpasses" for members of the Mennonites religious sect who fear a new highway will cut their com- munity in half. Mennonites are concerned about the relocation of High- way 85 and its effect on this community near Kitchener. They fear that Mennonites liv- ing on the west side of the two-lane highway will be iso- lated from their churches on the east side. Dr. R. S. Dorney, professor of environmental studies at the University of Waterloo, wrote to the highways depart- ment outlining the problems faced by tie Mennonites, who shun modern ways and still use horses and buggys to travel.
