Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - June 21, 1974, Lethbridge, Alberta Page 4 Brilliant race film ushers Queen's Plate On June 28, the day Before the Queen's Plate is CTV presents With Colors, a sophisticated and visually exciting documentary of the highlights of the 1973 "acing season. The film is basically a of the very successful year enjoyed by thoroughbred racing in On- .ario, highlights of which were the visit of the Queen and Prince Philip to Wood- Dine for the 115th running of the Queen's Plate, the 'inal appearance of iuperhorse, Secretariat in the Canadian International Championship, and Sandy Hawley's record number of wins. But more than a documented record, With Colors is an exciting collage of racing images and scenes. There is a jlimpse of the Queen ob- viously impatient for the procession at the Plate to go a bit faster. The disappointing perfor- mance of La Prevoyante and the victory of Royal Chocolate are re-lived. Film clips of the 1939 Plate are cut into the main body of the new film. A brief narration is provided by Jim Coleman, and interviews with leading figures in racing are featured, though grooms, jockeys and trainers. have as large a part in the proceedings as figures such as E. P. Taylor, John Mooney and Mrs. Penny Tweedy. The camera never intrudes and the result of the film is authenticity with the touch of a craftsman and artist. With Flying Colors was produced by Insight Productions. The setting is a seedy Victorian villa, at 23 Railway Cuttings, Chem. The other inmates of this wild house are Sid James, Hattie Jacques (Miss Bill Kerr, and Knneth Williams. Hancock is always trying to be smart, but his over confident manner is merely a cloak for the fear that things will go wrong and they always do. Inevitably he falls a victim to the schemes of wily Sid James. Hancock's Half Hour is produced by Dennis Main Wilson and Tom Ronald; written by Ray Gallon and Alan Simpson; with music composed and conduted by Wally Stott. The hilariously funny Goons Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers return to entertain the CBC Radio listening audience on Tuesdays, beginning July 2. DEAR DICK: Will you please tell me if Jerry Reed was killed in an airplane crash? I have heard that he was but I hope not. He was my favorite singer. MRS. MYRTLE BURKE, Augusta, Ga. You can still use the present tense. Jerry can still be your favorite singer. There's no truth to that rumor at this writing he's quite alive. DEAR DICK: Please let us know who is the voice of the TV Toyota commercials. My daughter says it's Telly Savalas. I say no You could make me a dollar richer, S. KRABEC, Marinette, Wis. Things are tough all over. You are now a dollar poorer. It is, indeed, Telly Savalas' voice on those commercials. DEAR DICK: Could you please give me all the information you have on Ida Lupino. Where was she born and when did she come to the U.S.? Who is she married to and does she have any children? SANDRA PLOCK, Sumter, S.C. Miss Lupino was born in England in 1918. She made some movies there, then came to Hollywood in 1934. She was brought here to do "Alice In but they decided her voice was too deep for that role. She has made many movies and directed a few. She is separated from longtime husband Howard Duff and she has a daughter, Bridget, 22. DEAR DICK: I've just heard Terry Jacks new song, "Seasons in the and I love it! I would like to know when and where he was born and is he going to record a new song? JOYCE ENGLE, Williamsport, Pa. Your new hero is a Canadian, born in Winnipeg March 29. He won't say what year but a good guess would be 1947, give or take a year or two. And you can be sure he'll be do- ing more recording, It'll be tough to follow that big hit, however. DEAR DICK: My nephew and I disagree at the drop of a hat. He says Roscoe Lee Browne plays the part of Nightlinger on The Cowboys. I say no, Do I win again? ROBERT C. SMITH, Myrtle Creek, Ore. If you're talking about the TV series, chalk up a victory for Uncle Bob. Moses Gunn is Nightlinger on the ABC show. But if it's the movie you're thinking of, Uncle Bob loses. Roscoe Lee Browne played Nightlinger in the film.
