The last dog team in the Baffin Island community was seen five years ago, but with gasoline priced at a gallon, residents are finding snowmobiles are not economical for hunting. Bryan Pearson, member of territorial council for Eastern Arctic, said Friday the canine comeback was given an assist when a film production crew from Holly- wood came into Frobisher Bay to shoot a movie ver- sion of James Houston's novel The White Dawn. They were looking for au- thenticity in the film about throe American whalers stranded with an Eskimo hunting band, so dog teams were imported from Igloo- lik. Mr. Pearson said local hunters now realize the an- cient method of travel isrit so bad after all and are ar- ranging to buy the teams from Igloolik.
