The TV Scout awards, sponsored by Newspaper Enterprise Association, are aiv- en annually for excellence in television. Tiro Days9 Live Coverage Of U.S. Open Shown On CTV The U.S. Open, one of the world's most prestigious golf tournaments, will be given two days of live color coverage on the CTV Television Network. The third round will be tele- vised on Saturday June 20, at p.m. and the final round will be shown on Sunday June 21, at p.m. over Channel 13. More than 20 color cameras wilt cover the action on nine holes (9, 10 and 12 through 18) at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in.Chaska. Minn., a town about 15 miles from Minnea- polis. The tournament is tire first of golf's remaining "Big Three" tournaments to be televised on CTV. The British Open will be telecast via satel- lite from St. Andrews, Scotland on July II and the PGA Cham- pionship from the Southern Hills Country Club in T u I s a, Oklahoma, August 15 and 1G. This year for the first time a point system will be used to gr'ant exemptions from qualify- ing. In the past, money win- nings were the basis for grant- ing exemptions. Under the new system points are awarded on a graduated scale to the first five finishers hi the 72 hole tournaments held during the past calendar year which are sponsored or1 co-sponsored by the PGA and which offer prize money of at least WASHINGTON ABC-TV will introduce 11 new pro- grams and wiLl move six old ones to new time periods in next fall's schedule. The new shows are marked by a new emphasis on white collar, pro- fessional heroes and the intro- duction of an all-black cast for Barefoot In The Park. Cancelled from next fall's schedules are The Flying Nun, j The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, It Takes A Thief, Paris Here Come the Brides, Jimmy Durante Presents The Lennon Sisters, Land Of The Giants. Pat Paulsen's Half-A-Comedy Hour and The Engelbert Hum- perdinck Show. ABC-TV has given death given notices to a total cf 14 programs j since last September. Mid-sea- son death notices went to The Music -Scene, The New Peo- ple, Tlio Survivors and The Hollywood Palace. The situation comedies, bas- ed on Broadway successes by Neil Simon, will run consecu- tively on Thursdays in the new j season. These are Barefoot In The Park, starring Scoey Mitchell and Niscy Kussell, fol- lowed by The Odd Couple With Tony Randall and Jack Ivlug- man. Also moving into an all-new Thursday- schedule will be Dial Hot-Line witli Vincent Edwards as the head of hospital's exper- imental psychological unit. Completing the Thursday line- up is The Immortal, a science fiction hour with Chris George. The main character's body chemistry con- tains antibodies that make him immune to all diseases and to- tally resistant to the aging pro- cess. New on Sundays will be The Young Rebels, an hour advcn- 1 ture show tiiat is set in the year 1777. Three unknowns Rick Ely. Lou Gossett and Elex Hcn- teloff head the cast. Two new programs are sched- uled for Monday night. The Young Lawyers stars Lee J. j Cobb as the boss of three law students at a neighborhood legal aid society. The Silent Force has Ed Nelson (Peyton Place) as a treasury agent.
