Arrangements are now practically complete for tlie summer school for teachers which will be held this year as usual at the University ot .-Mberta in July and August. The standard courses in agriculture and gardening, household art.f, fine and applied art. manual arts, first aid and physical training will lie ofilored as heretofore. According to the rngulalions ot the department of education British and American teachers whose professional st'inding Is recognized in Alluutu are required to complete coursen in lils-tory and civics, school laws and regulations and geography with special reference to Canada, in order to become qualified In the province. Instruction in these courses will he given by C. Sansom ot the Calgary normal school and Miss Dickie and W. A. Stickle ot Camrose. Several course.s are being ottered this year for trie first time. Teuoh-ers who wish to specialize in primary work will have an opportunity ot se-puring.more complete tratnlng in this field. This course will consist ot lectures,- demonstrations and class discussions. Special attention will be given music, dramatization, storytelling and games. Dr. Cofhn ot Calgary will have general charge of the iustruction in this course. To meet the needs of teachers who may wish to further perfect themselves in oral French a course will be given wholly in this language. Not only will the course include practice in speaking French but will give considerable training in method in teaching the language with a careful study of the texts in use In the schools. For the first time this year teachers have the opportunity of qualifying for first class certificates at the summer session. Three courses of unusual interest are being otfpred- one in educational psychology, one in administration and a third in educational problems. In these courses the latest educational theories, devices and practices will bo explained and discussed. Such work will ho of the greatest value to teachers who wish to quality as principals and vice principals. Teachers this year are finding the question "What shall 1 do during the vacation?" a difficult one. With the majority of the men overseas tlie women feel that they should engage in some sort of war work. Realizing that opportunities for this work are of necessity limited during tho summer the department through the summer school is offering opportunities ot a varied character to the teachers to further equip themselves for a more elficlent service at home. Enrolment tor the summer session may be made at any time up to the end ot June. AT THE CORNER FILLING STATION YOU can GET ,now tires and tubes, or repair and vulcanizing. I'ree air. BARONS, ALTA.
