Seeks Wheat For Starving DACCA (AP) Pakistan is asking Canada, the United States and Australia for an ad- ditional free wheat grant to stave off the threat of starvation for thousands in the northern districts of East Paki- stan, official sources said here. Pakistan has already im- ported tons of food, mainly from the U.S., this fiscal year. There are about 36.7 bushels to a metric ton. In the last three weeks in the worst-hit area, thousands of hungry men and women have been on the streets in the north- ern towns demanding food and work. One peasant leader says many of the hungry look more like skeletons than living human beings. The government of East Paki- stan contends that present food stocks are sufficient, and prices are not that high. But one official said: "It's true there is no famine in this country in terms of shortage, but there is definitely a famine on for the many who are unable to buy food."
