YE E PflBJSJj TMIE AQUARIAN DAY of filmic recording of pop con- certs readied a blasting noon with Woodstock then descend- ed to terror night with the tree concert of the Rolling Stones at Altamont. Woodstock gave us love, peace, freedom, showcasing a clutch of superstars doing what they do best: just singing. Altamont, wilh its bad vibra- tions, Hell's Angels armed with weighted pool cues, brawls and ultimate murder was a socialo- gical documentary of tlie cult gone wrong, acid-etched by the cool voice of Mick Jaggcr re- questing instant replay of the murder scene while film edit- ing. The Conccrl. for Bangladesh, seen here briefly, was some- thing else again. Key rock figures, all in great form, were brought together by George Harrison for twin con- cerls at Madison Square Gar- dens and the resulting gate of went to refugee chil- dren. Originally there was no in- lenlion to build the show into a movie feature; the best thai producer-director Saul Swim- mer hoped to get was about 10 minutes of footage to be used later for a documentary about the Beatles. Shooting was news-reel style on 16 mm color negative, with the lighting arranged to suit the mood of the concert, not the moviemaker. The enlargement of the 16 mm image, the highcsl degree of enlargement ever attempted from original material for thea- trical release meant some con- siderable cropping, but the quality held up and even the occasional graining added gril and a feeling of actuality. And tlie result; a lively en- thusiastic film, simple and un complicated, reuniting Harri sou and Eingo Slarr, bringing Bob Dylan from seclusion anc 'eaturing, among others, the incomparable Ravi Sliankar. For its own meril and ils charitable purpose "Concert" was well worth seeing too 1 it didn't do better at Ihc box office. Passport Photos Candid Wtddlngi Picture Framing Pfrala SuppliM A. E.
