FRIDAY, JUNE 14, 1974 LISTING FOR SATURDAY, JUNE 15 TO FRIDAY, JUNE 21 Prophet show debuts Eleven weeks of comedy, variety and music are in store for Friday night television viewers when The Ronnie Prophet Show makes its debut on CBC-TV June 21 at 9 p.m. Ronnie Prophet, the country boy from Calumet, Que who earned nickels at first and who now is a celebrity often playing Las Vegas with Danny Thomas between frequent appearances on the Merv Griffin and Johnny Carson shows is a brilliant musician and singer of both country and pop songs. His repertoire is a mix of every kind of music and song, satire, mimicry, wit complemented by a magnetic face, even in slapstick comedy He's a seasoned night club entertainer and has a lifetime contract at Boots Randolph's Carousel Club in Nashville, Tennessee, where he's regarded as one of the world's best country and pop guitar players. Wherever he has gone to perform, he's always been held over, sometimes for months At one plush place in the Bahamas, his six month contract stretched to 18 months and the club's management moved Ronnie's wife and family to the Bahamas, furnished a house and tutors for his children Star of last summer's CBC-TV Friday night variety show Country Roads, Ronnie's role as stai this season is less country and more in keeping with his talents as a musician singer comedian. Heath Lamberts, one of Canada's best known legitimate stage actors, plays "top banana" to Honnie on each show Between rehearsals and studio tapings, Lamberts commutes to Niagara on the Lake, where he's appearing at the Shaw Festival Hands full The multi-talented Paul Soles has his hands full with his on- air duties at CBC-TV. Together with Adrienne Clarkson and Ed Reid, Paul hosts the daily afternoon program, Take 30 (3 p.m. as well as the prime-time version, Take 30 and Take 60 (Thursday nights at 10 p.m.) In addition to all that, Paul turns up as the incorri- gible Lawbreaker on This Is The Law, seen on CBC-TV, Monday nights at p.m. Casting director appointed SPOTLIGHT An eye on voters CBC radio news will provide extensive coverage of the federal election campaign culminating in a complete national and regional election night special July 8. Five Sunday Magazine programs will concentrate on coverage of the campaign. Special coverage will also be included in regular major news broadcasts g such as The World At 8 and The World At'6 Providing an overall picture of the campaign will be Terry Hargreaves, parliamentary bureau chief for CBC Radio News. Covering the campaigns of the party leaders will be Dennis Baxter. Peter Cook and Mike Duffy. Reporting on the regions will be Bill Curtis in the Atlantic provinces. Dave Struthers in Quegec. Hal Jones and Dennis McVansh in Ontario. Ron Smith in the Prairies, and Brian Kelleher in British Columbia. g On June 16 the campaign in Western Canada will be covered in detail. Quebec will be the subject of :ij the program on June 23. and on June 30 the focus swings to Ontario. S- On July 7 Sunday Magazine will present a final wrap up of the campaign with reports and assessments from all the reporters. These election specials will be produced by Jack Kusch. Complete coverage and analysis of the returns will be broadcast on CBC radio on election night beginning at 8 p.m. local time. Coverage will continue until the outcome is known. Anchormen for this special broadcast will be Terry Hargreaves and announcer Bob Oxley with political commentators Professor John Wilson, of the University of Waterloo, and Gretta Chambers, v. Quebec political analyst. John Hirsch, head of CBC-TV drama, has announced that Mrs Muriel Sherrin will join the drama department at CBC Toronto as casting director, effective Sepl 1 Toronto-born Mrs Sherrin will bring years of experience in the performing arts to this newly-created position Karlv in her career she was an actress, working both on stage and in television, and she later became a theatrical publicity director She was the first general manager of the Shaw Festival at Niagara-on-the- Lake. is the author of a study on the state of the arts in the Halifax- Dartmouth region, and recently performed organizational duties for the Canadian Conference of the Arts. She also has worked as a representative for several well-known Canadian actors Currently Mrs Sherrin is regional representative (Atlantic Region) for the Canada Council and serves on the board of the touring office of the Council Stompin' Tom Across This Land Stompin' Tom Connors stars in his first feature film a musical journey across Canada, visiting the people and places that have been an inspiration for so many of his songs.
