In its 1974 summer schedule, CBC television places the accent on new variety shows from CBC regional' production centres, a public affairs series with direct participation by members of the general public, a new game show, a bonanza of summer sports specials, and Sunday night movies of exceptional interest. The schedule, also features imports from the United Kingdom, including a history series, an art series, and three drama series. Among the new entries in CBC produced variety is Ceilidh (pronounced kay- musical entertainment in the Scottish tradition from CBC Halifax, featuring Alasdair Gillies, Scottish recording artist, as host. Thursdays at p.m. Also in the variety line up are five mini series (three programs Applause, Applause (CBC Winnipeg) starring revue artists Dinah Christie and Dean Regan; A Time To Sing (CBC Vancouver) hosted by Bill Hosie and Laurie Valleau; The Myrna Lorrie Show (CBC Montreal, Montreal (CBC hosts TEA: and from Edmonton three programs featuring the local group Jury Thursdays at p.m. As previously announced, Access is a series of weekly half hours giving groups or individuals the opportunity to program a particular issue of interest to their fellow Cnaadians. Participants in various centres across the country will "produce" the program with the aid of CBC crews and producers, and using CBC facilities. SPORTS Highlights of the sports schedule on CBC television this summer are 12 Expos baseball games, five golf tournaments, three tennis championships and 13 Canadian Football League games. Sports specials will be scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer golf, gymnastics, hydroplane races, equestrian events, badminton, soccer, water polo, basketball, swimming and other events. A new sports series, Let's Do It, will debut June 26 at to run 11 weeks. Segments from regions across Canada will deal with sports that do not normally get TV coverage, and physical fitness tips and sports instruction will be featured. Tom McKee will share duties with a female co host. Sunday nights on CBC- TV will be "movie ottering an eight week series of the finest feature films of Charlie Chaplin, representing his outstanding work from 1918 1957 (from The Gold Rush to The King In New Following the Chaplin series, in the same prime time slot (9-11 a six week season of Canadian feature films, including the first TV showing of Claude Jutra's acclaimed Mon Oncle Antoine. and Paul Almond's The Journey, starring Genevieve Bujold and John Vernon. The three new hour drama series from Britain are: Shabby Tiger, a dramatization of the Howard Spring novel about a young and footloose artist in 1930s England, from Granada Television. Lilli Pa.'mer and Brian Keith as four veterans of the French Resistance who meet up in peacetime to fight crime in the millionaires' playground.
