Just the fact of Stratford inspired, or accelerated, the regional theatre movement in Canada. Stratford has made the legitimate theatre a socially acceptable and recognizable pastime." Twice he has led the Stratford Company of Actors on foreign tours, as King Lear to Europe and Russia in 1973 and as The Imaginary Invalid to Australia last winter. In a recent realignment of the festival's administration Mr. Hutt was named associate director in charge of the Festival Theatre Stage. "I like my new appointment at he said. "Specifically, I will be directly responsible for what Ask About The NEW INVISIBLE Multicocal Lens (MULTILUX) goes on at the Festival in splendid isolation, of course. The ar- rangement has infinite flexibility." In more than two decades performing at Stratford, Mr. Hutt has acted in such plays as The Country Wife, Troilus and Cressida, Henry IV Part Two, The Cherry Orchard and Tartuffe. "When I begin examining a role I'm going to play I try to seek out what is I don't mean the role; that is, I know I've been cast in a man's role and I look for something to soften it. I look for the character's isolation, for the way in which he is unique from the other characters. I look for silence. "Onstage too, I never believe in moving unless it improves on stillness. I don't look for what in the character is applicable to me, but the reverse of that, what of myself I can find in the character." After this summer's Stratford season, Hutt will immerse himself in the festival's future planning, with some interruptions for his own acting career. The best to you from Palm. Milk.
