The 8.7 mile course will be covered by 13 cameras, in- cluding one in an aircraft that will provide viewers with spec- tacular views as the plane zooms 300 ieet above the long straightaway, following the racing cars. The panoramic view of the course will also some of the anticipated crowd of which annual- ly lines the road for one of the most festive sports events on earth. The Rise Of Ray Stevens Beauty Contest The 19th annual Miss Uni- verse Beauty Pageant will be held Saturday, July 11. Clarkda'le, Georgia, just out- side Atlanta, is where Ray Stevens was born. When he was five years old his parents started him on piano lessons and music soon became an all consuming interest from which he has never strayed. At Georgia State University he broadened lus knowledge by majoring in music. It was nat- ural, then, that cue way for him to make money was to capitalize on his piano playing ability. So he joined a combo which became extremely popu- lar and soon he was being booked for dances all along tire southern Georgia coastline. The dances had one pitfall. When the combo finished a set, complete boredom set in. Ray, being a "ham" by nature, gravitated toward the micro- phone and began doing "sch- ticks" which soon "bite''. By combining his musical abil- ity with his natural talent Ray became a standup performer and and one of the world's brightest critics through the music me- dium. In 1962 he moved to "Music Nashville, Tennessee, where his talents as a musi- cian and arranger were soon in great demand.
