WHEREAS it is estimated that it Mil be necessary to raise for the pur- pose of buildings 'for public market In the City of Lethbridge the sum of live thousand dollars AND WHEREAS by sub-section "d" of Section 4.xof .Title 24 of tlie Leth- bridge Charter lite Council was given power to make Bylaws for .contracting debts not payable within the current year, and it is deemed advisable to raise by way .of loan on the credit of the City of Letlihrldge' tihe sum of for the purpose, aforesaid, aud to.Issue debentures therefor. WHEREAS it is deemed ex- pedient'that the'said loan bear inter- est at tire rate of five per centum per annum to be -paid, half yearly, and the said principal sum of Five thou- sand dollars to be paid at the expiration of thirty (30) years from the date' of this Bylaw taking effect, according to the last revised assessment roll of the City of Lethbridge the value of the assessable property was twenty-five miiiion two 'hundred and fifty-one thonsand eight hundred' and, ten dol- lars ju'.d the value of the rateable of the said City of Lethbridge was sixteen million nine Hundred and ntnteen thousand fix hundred and fifty-five dollars 1 AND WHEREAS the amount of tihe existing debt of tlie City o! Lethbridge outside of. current, expenses clusive of local improvement debts secured by special assessment Is- Two million eight hundred and fifteen thousand one hundred eighty-two dollars and eighty-six cents 182.86) no of principal or interest thereof or oj sinking fund In arrears. AND WHEREAS the amounts re- quired to be raised annually by spec- ial rate during the currency of the aaid'debentures-are: for paying Interest thereon and (2) for forming a sinking fund for the pay- ment of the debt created by debent- ures issued on account thereof N'bvv therefore the Mayor and Coun- cil of. the City of Lethbridge Enact as follows: may -borrow oii'the credit of'fhe City rif purpose hereinbefore referred to the sum of 2. The said debentures shall all bear the same dato and shall dated and issued'within two years after the final passing of this Bylaw and be payable at the expiration of thirty (30) years from tlie date of th'e issue' thereof.' .Such debentures may be'expressed either in Canadian Cur- rency or Sterling money or both in currency nnd Sterling money of equivalent value as provided by the Currency Act, as the Council-may by resolution direct and shall bear inter- est at -tie rate of five per centum per annum payable 3ialf-yearly arid >K to both principal and interest may be made payable, at tlie Bank of Montreal in London, England, or at the chief of- fice of the said bank In the City of To- ronto, 'the City of .Montreal, or the City of Lethbridge in the Dominion of Can- ada, or at the chief office .of the said bank In the City of New York in the State of New York in the United States cf America, or any other place or places In Canada, Great Britain of the United Stales as tho Council may by resolution direct and such debentures may contain any clause providing for tiie registration thereof authorized by the Lethbridge Charter. 3. That tlie said debentures shall be sealed with the seal of the Olty or Lethbridge and signed by the Mayor and Oily Clerk. The coupons shall be signed by the City Clerk and '.he signatures .to the coupons may b lithographed or engraved. 4. And in addition to all other, am dunts there shall be levied and collect- ed in each year for thirty years, dur- ing the currency of the sal-i deben ures. on all the rateable property i the Oily of Lethbridge by special rat or rates sufficient therefor the follow- ing: sums for 'paying the interest on and for forming a sinking fund for the payment of the debt created, namely: The sum of .shall bo raised an- nually to pay the Interest and tlie sum of shall be raised annually to provide a sinking fund to pay the debt. 5. That die Mayor .shall attend at ibis office in the City bt Lethbridge at ton (10) o'clock in 'the forenoon on .the 2nd day of July A.D.. 1914. and if re- quested shall appoint two persons to attend at each polling place on bahaM of the -persons interested in promot- ing the passing of this Bylaw and a like number on behalf of the persons interested in opposing tlie passing of this Bylaw. 6.' The City 'Clerk shall -at his of- fice In tiie City Lethbridge on the 4th day ot July A.D. 1914, at the honr of ten (10) o'clock in the forenoon (10 a.m.) sum up tlie number of votes for and against the Bylaw. 7. ilhls Bylaw shall Jake effect on the day of the final passing thereof. 8. P. Hallway at the Gymnasium all the corner of ,13th St. and 4th Avenue, by H. Dawson, who is Deputy Returning Office to take the votes. (b) For that portion of the City ly- ing South ot the C. P. Railway at the Labor Temple, facing Now Post Office on 7th Street by E. O. Stick- ey, who is appointed Deputy Return- Ing Officer to take ehe votes. READ a firsij time this 1st day of June A.
