H. Fleet- wood is to have an automobile that he gan get around the city more peditiously to superintend the vari- ous works that are going on in all parts under hfs department. H was decided upon at the city council meeting-last night by a vote of five to two. Aid. Hatch brought the matter up by introducing a mo- tion which provided that a small run- about be purchased for (he water- works -superintendent. Aid. King shot in an amendment which read, "That we do not buy an automobile for the waterworks superintendent." Speaking to the amendment Aid. King declared that it was beyond the city's pocket, declared it a waste of money and followed it up by an in- dictment of the whole city adminis- tration. Aid. Sage answered Aid. King's ob- jections, saying that it was on his suggestion that the car already bought had been designated to the joint use of the mayor and the wa- terworks superintendent. Since it had been bought he had seen that it was entirely necessary for the mayor to have one to himself, and not less necessary, for the water-master. It was but giving the employees proper tools the better to carry out their work. With a runabout he was con- vinced 'the water-master could give even better service by being able to keep his eye on the many employees under of letting them have their own way from early morn to night was tantamount to letting him trudge around the city on foot allday. The. Aid. Hatch, was that some people considered an auto- mobile merely as a luxury, whereas it was now, a necessity. Aid. King's amendment was lost and Aid. Sage's motion carried, Aldermen King and Frayne being the only two to vote in favor of the former and against the latter. Suburban Acreage for Sub-division See our.list of choice, close in acreage.
