IMS JO CALL A "MOW TO LAWYER'" MIGHT, SATURDAY THE FOLLOWING REVIEW IS REPRINTED IN ITS ENTIRETY FROM LIFE MAGAZINE OF FEBRUARY 27, 1970's ISSUE. RESTRICTED ADULT MOVIE REVIEW Sidney 3, Futle has taken a very fa- miliar screen situation (a young lawyer defending an apparently inde- fensible client in a seemingly hopeless trial) and made it seem fresher and more entertaining than one would have thought possible. The Ijawycr appears to have been suggested, at least, by the Sam Sheppard murder trial in Cleveland in 1954. But Furre has relocated it out West and filled the screen with all sorts of unfamiliar faces who graduallyrcveal themselves to be both more eccentric and more human than the gang hanging around your .typical' movie courthouse. He also has a very nice feel for the at- mosphere of a city that is neither large nor small and for the way it shapes character. The title :charactcr is- smashingly played by a newcomer named Barry Newman. Sharp-lalk- ing, sharp-dressing, ambitious and ir- reverent, he's an irritant to the locals, but lo us a very engaging cai. As his wife, Diana Muldaur again demon- she did in Number One she has a natural charm as well as natural beauty. As for Furic, he is back to the good form of Tiic Lcallt- cr Bays and The Ipcms File, demon- slrating again that pungent sense of place, face and pace that distinguished those early efforts. The is a very sturdy entertainment. PICTURES MAGIC CHRISTIAN" Color PETER SELLERS TONIGHT: TODAY Thru SAT.
