Throughout Canada, over the 51m board's six regions, 48 col- lege and university students are engaged in showing mov- ies in a wide range of locations to a large variety of audi- Miees, some of which include Iwspital and nursing home pa- tents and prison convicts. One of their aims is to ac- quaint people with Canada and Canadians through the NBC summer film series. In Montreal, the NFB's ma Pavilion at Man and His World, which is managed and staffed by 12 Quebec students, continues to draw the public's interest, The young people hold fiee daily screenings of NFB fea- tures and shorts which are fol- lowed by Last year the pavilion re- ceived a record visitors. Louis Craig, 22-year-old Loy- ola communications student, who is co-ordinator of the pro- ject, says Summer Cinema is a challenge to find diHcient ways of using films and also provides an opportunity lot the students to meet with all kinds of audiences from acioss the country. Next big problem for the mov- ie business and it's a cork- er is what to do now that the Supremo Court has decid- el every community has the right to censor its own movie showings You can imagine what hav- oc this is causing around town As one producer put it, exag- gerating somewhat, "There are now one million censors and we have to try and please them all" What it boils down to is this. the movie companies are scared to make anything ex- cept family films, lest some of these local censors take it upon themselves to cancel showings The ruling already is taking its toll At a recent party, I talked with Arthur Hiller, the man who made Love Story and The Man Of LaMancha, among many others.
