Trade was strong and active, meeting a broad de- mand. Slaughter steers sold a full 75 cents higher. Heifers sold 25 to 50 cents higher with sales to 45.90. Cows were 50 to 75 cents higher and bulls were high- er. Steers Al, A2: 47.50 to 48.90. A3: 46.50 to 47.50. Heifers Al, A2: 44 to 45.20. A3: 42.75 to 43.75. Cows Dl, D2: 35.75 to 37.30. D3: 32.50 to 33.50. D4: 30 to 33.50. Bulls, good: 40 to 42.50. Replacement cattle were mostly steers and heifers in the heavier weight range sell- ing at fully steady to strong prices. One load of replace- ment cows weighing about pounds sold at 39. Good feeder steers, more than 850 pounds: 45 to 48.80. Good feeder heifers, more than 650 pounds: 40 to 46. The industrial index, consid- ered the major indicator of market trend, rose to 218.50, base metals .69 to 107.51 and western oils 3.63 to 247.52. Golds dropped 3.02 to 300.10. Volume by 11 .m. was 000 shares. Tuesday's volume was unavailable due to techni- cal problems. Advances more than doubled declines, 145 to 71, with 147 is- sues unchanged.
