Heavy vodka drinker told to quit habit Dear Dr- Lamb My hus- band is a heavy vodka drinker and he also has what they call thickening of the blood. I was told drinking vodka will not hurt him as much as other hard drinks. Is this true? I have seen him go clear out of his head. He is 48 years old. He drinks two fifths from Friday noon to Saturday night and then some weeks a half pint a day. Maybe that is not a heavy drinker but to me it seems like a lot. Can you tell me what the two will do, the thick blood and the vodka mix or is he safe in drinking it? Dear Reader Vodka and most whiskies have about the same amount of alcohol in them. Li ftther words, if it's 80 proof vodka or 80 proof whisky they contain the same amount of alcohol. There are small traces of additional products in whiskies that give them a dif- ferent flavor from vodka. Some of these can be irritating to some individuals but the main problem your husband has is drinking too much alcohol in any drink. He is a heavy drink- er and has a problem.
