AUCTIONEERS IES HANDLEY FRED BURTON ROGER HANDLEY Lie. No. 010120 Lie. No. 005615 Lie. No. 010121 today's FUNNY It won't happen again Thoittto Mrs. E. J. Canton, Ohfe IB W1 bl NEA, tei Study stand to abolish estate tax OTTAWA (CD Tougiier se- curity meahures Thursday for Prime Minister Trudeau and his cabinet on Parliament Hill re- sulted from RCMP reaction to tourist-season crowds, spokes- men said Friday. Reporters waiting to question government members after a cabinet meeting were forced be- hind crowd-control ropes but sources said Friday that won't happen again. An official RCMP explanation was that the RCMP detachment in charge of Parliament Hill se- curity made the decision on its own. The prime minister's office, questioned about the incident, said study is continuing on the problem of news media access to Mr. Trudeau and the cabinet members during the summer recess, when meetings are held in the East Block with reporters waiting outside the main entrance to ask questions. In earlier times, they waited in- side. During parliamentary sit- tings, cabinet meetings usually are held in the Centie Block and reporters can wait inside the building, housing the Com- mons and Senate chambers, for Mr. Trudeau and cabinet mem- bers. There's no crowd prob- lem. An RCMP spokesman said there had been a misunderstan- ding Thursday in applying tight regulation to the reporters. EDMONTON (CP) Provin- cial Treasurer Anders Aalborg says the provincial government is considering whether it should oppose federal plans to abolish estate taxes and re- place the revenue by a capita! gains tax. Mr. Alborg said in an inter- view the proposal in federal Fi- nance Minister Edgar Benson's proposed tax reform legislation "is the subject of close scrut- iny" by the Alberta govern- ment. The change would place the roposed Syncrude roject near Fort McMurray in eopardy. Mr. Aalborg says the changes could be the subject of more talks with Ottawa. Opposition Leader Peter Lougheed has said earlier he rill seek provincial legislation o'offset the "adverse effects of federal tax reform on farms and small business."
