The 72-year-old Ormandy, in Los Angeles for a series of per- formances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, said Wednesday he received a copy of The Yel- low River Concerto about a month ago from mainland China. "In today's China, at kast in this case, such a piece of music is written by a group rather than one said Or- mandy. "The composer is listed as 'the committee of the com- poser's union.'" Ormandy called the Chinese concerto effective. He said "it sounds like a 19th-century Rus- sian work.
