Robins Co. of Canada a Montreal drug has suspended distribution and sale of the widely-used Dalkon Shield intrauterine device in Canada until a plann- ed federal health department survey of IUD medical problems and side-effects among Canadian women can be completed. The Dalkon Shield IUD has been implicated in 36 some of septic abortions among users of the con- traceptive device in the U.S. And the Canadian dis- tributor recently sent a warn- ing letter to all Canadian doc- advising them that the IUD can produce serious even in both the infant and the mother if the IUD fails to prevent pregnancy. The announced more than a month is concerned with all types of not just the Dalkon and the complications and side-effects which might be associated with their use. Information under the sur- vey is being obtained by the federal government from doc- IUD manufacturers and from family planning where lUDs are often widely prescribed. One reason for the survey is that to government health authorities have very little data on side-effects from lUDs reported by doctors of even though medical problems associated with use of lUDs are known to exist. A federal health department official said the IUD survey- by-mail was supposed to be sent to doctors within a matter of days. Company records showed that more than of the Dalkon Shield lUDs have been sold in Canada since it was first introduced in Canada in 1970. There are no known figures on the actual number inserted in women. In the health department has instructed more than federally- financed family planning clinics to stop using the Dalkon Shield pending U.S. Food and Drug Ad- ministration determination of its safety. can i -you Rote. and Rotex can show you the time of your Wnafreetnpfor2 toAcapukxn Come in to your Peoples Jewellers store and see the largest selection of Rolex superb quality and fill out an entry form for the Rolex contest. Small plants or those with delicate foliage should be wiped clean and polished with a damp non-abrasive cloth. Large plants with broad leaves can be quickly and thoroughly cleaned with a vacuum. With the vacuum set for low speed and gentle the soft bristles of the brush remove dirt and insects such as mealy bugs and red spiders. Schwartz feels diseases often may be prevented if plants are kept clean and ad- vises vacuuming both top and bottom leaf surfaces at least once every two weeks.
