Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - July 4, 1970, Lethbridge, Alberta 6 THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD Saturday, Joly 4, WO- Plays Are Named For Arts Centre HUGHTS OTTAWA (CP) The 1970-71 English Theatre season at the National Arts Centre will in- clude four plays by the Strat- ford National Theatre and one each by the Shaw Festival and St. Lawrence Centre. In announcing the upcoming schedule at a news conference Thursday, G. Hamilton Southam, the NAC's director general, said they were using the theatre as a "showcase of the best professional work done in Canada from year to year." The Stratford theatre will present Shakespeare's Cymbe- line and Eichard Wilbur's trans- lation of Moliere's Tartuffe Oct. 19 to Nov. 1-1 The Stratford company will select two plays from its 1871 festival season. The plays will appear at the arts centre March 22 to April 17. A Canadian adaptation by Betty Jane Wylie of Henrik Ib- sen's An Enemy of the People will be presented by Toronto's St. Lawrence Centre Jan. 18-30. The Shaw Festival will wind up the season with either The Philanderer or Too Good to be True, both by George Bernard Shaw, May 24 to June 5. Mr. Southam announced that the Studio will be used as an ex- periment in bilingual theatre in the upcoming season. The Stu- dio season will be divided evenly between English nnd French productions by a resi- dent Arts Centre company. The English section season will run from mid-October to the end of January and the French section season will follow. Breaks His Leg LONDON (AP) British movie actor Laurence Harvey fell out of bed and broke his leg. The accident occurred Thursday while he was rehearsing Ben Johnson's bowdy comedy The Al- chemist for Chichester Festival Theatre. MOVIE: Untamed, p.m., Ch. 7: Tyrone Power and Susan Hay ward star as a couple who join the Boer move- ment to colonize Africa's Zulu territory. MOVIE: Picnic, p.m., Ch. 13: A 1956 adaptation of William Inge's play about a handsome drifter who dis- rupts the lives of severdi women in a small town. Stars William Holden and Kim Novak.
