Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - January 28, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta Kinsmen unveil 18th edition at Exhibition Pavilion February 6 Thursday, January 28, 1971 - THI LETHMIDOI HfitMD ~ S says, this dinner is the best of them all By DON PFLUNG Herald Sports Editor JT WAS Joe Garagiola who said it, and there are undoubtedly hundreds who agree with the former major league catcher, now one of the shining stars in American television. Garagiola laid them in the aisles at the 1962 Lethbridge Kinsmen Dinner, and obviously he hasn't forgotten our town and its people. "I've been to dozens of dinners," he said recently, "but of all the ones I've spoken at the best of all is that Kinsmen affair in Lethbridge. They treat you right. They are first-class people; their dinner is first-class. It's the best." I'm happy Joe Garagiola feels that way. He's merely confirmed how a lot of us have always felt about the Kinsmen show. The Kinsmen, who have contributed their share, and more, in making Lethbridge a in which to live, have always gone with the most glittering names from the wonderful world of sport- the likes of baseball's Sandy Koufax, boxing's Rocky Marciano, football's Gayle Sayers and track and field's Jesse Owens to name.only four of a great array of talent. It's that time of the year again. The Kinsmen's 18th annual dinner occupies the spotlight at the Exhibition Pavilion one week from Saturday night, February 6. It's bound to be another all-star show. It always is. Being a Lethbridgeite, I'm proud of many things in this city. The Kinsmen Dinner happens to be one of them. Like Joe Garagiola says, it's the best. 1959.
