Advances outnumbered declines by about two-to-one, 162 to B2, with 192 issues unchanged. Banking, industrial mining, pipeline, food processing, steel and utility stocks recorded strong gains. Beverage, merchandising, general manufacturing and communications issues drifted moderately lower.
