New image for Liberals GRANDE PRAIRIE (CP) Nick Taylor of Calgary, a candidate for the leadership of the Alberta Liberal party, says that if he is elected, he will try to give the party a distinct provincial image. The party would still try to get along with the federal Liberal party, but it would party, he said. The party's status in Alberta is almost dead at present, but at least it doesn't have to reconcile the number of factions with which the Social Credit party, for example, had to cope, Mr. Taylor noted. Liberal leadership A _______ avoid acquiring the reputation convention will be held in of being a "tail" of the federal Edmonton March 1 and 2. Hospital director quits PONOKA (CP) L. J. Search ends for mother CALGARY (CP) A two- day search by police for.the mother of two slain children ended Thursday when Mrs. Isobel Wuttunee was found in northwest Calgary. The woman was the object of an intensive city-wide hunt when it was learned she was a diabetic and in- immediate need of medical treatment. Her two children, Tanya Jane, 2, and seven-month-old Thomas, were found stabbed to death Tuesday in their basement suite home in the city. Police said Mrs. Wuttunee was taken to hospital for a physical and psychiatric examination. School trustees accused CALGARY (CP) The turnout was small and committee member Bob Dixon blames it on the school trustees who, he says, deliberately set the meeting in the wrong place at the wrong time. Less than ISO ratepayers attended the meeting to discuss the recent pay increases the public school board trustees voted themselves. Organizers had anticipated a turnout of The meeting unanimously censured the board for raising trustee pay to a year from and the chairman's income to from and demanded that the raises be revoked. Wolf-pack leader killed WETASKIWIN (CP) Wolf-hunting farmers in the Bluffton area about 40 miles southwest of here have scored what they consider a success, killing a wolf which they believe was leading a pack that preyed on their cattle. The wolf was killed with a single shot a few hundred yards from the ranch house of Ranee Curtis. Residents in the area banded together during the weekend and killed three wolves after the animals killed one of Mr. Curtis' cows less than 200 yards from his barn. Judge lectures youth EDMONTON (CP) Raymond Girard, 19, of St. Albert, five miles north of here, was told Thursday he risked "the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands of youngsters to make money." The youth received the lecture from J. V. H. Milvain, chief justice of the Alberta Supreme Court trial division, after pleading guilty to trafficking in hashish. your customers were destroying themselves by the use of this Mr. Jus- tice Milvain said. "It does none of them good and all of them evil. Yet you are prepared to risk the lives of hundreds, perhaps thousands of youngsters to make money." In suspending sentence and placing him on probation for two years, Mr. Justice Milvain told Girard: "I am placing your life in your hands." Alberta policies Vent down drain' EDMONTON (CP) Alberta's energy principles went down the drain at the federal provincial energy conference in Ottawa this week, says Bob Clark, Social Credit house leader. "Premier Lougheed has been saying how this province must not buckle under to any outside pressures on its resources, yet he concedes to a 50-per-cent giveaway of the export tax during the 60-day accord struck at the Mr. Clark said Thursday. To make up for it, Alberta must press its case for the best deal it can get during the 60-day price freeze period, he added. "We must state our energy policy in clear, exact terms so all Canadians will understand the position we are faced with here, and sharpen our presence so it can be related in clear, rational terms." Mr. Clark attended the conference, held Tuesday and Wednesday, and said the public portion of the meetings were of negligible value. "Really, the hard bargaining was done behind closed doors on the second day of the conference. A few minutes by the prime minister told it all. "Alberta didn't gain a thing, and the only winner was Saskatchewan due to some hard bargaining by Premier Allan SCHMIDT'S VIEWS Werner Schmidt, Social Credit party leader, said he wonders why the western provinces did not talk about other inequities, affecting the western region's economy. "Rail freight rates are not energy, but this is one of the problems that ties Alberta to a two-prong economy agriculture and oil. We would have used it as a good bargaining tool." Mr. Schmidt noted there was no hesitation on the part of the Maritime provinces to inject their regional problems into the conference and show how they were related to energy. ;
