Karl Patzelt, director of the Catholic Russian Centre and pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church in San Francisco, was interviewed after participating in a television discussion on exorcism with four other priests. ‘Monopoly’ days of CBC over TORONTO (CP) -Rnowlton Nash, CBC director of television information programming, said Monday the CBC’s days of “smorgasbord programming” are ending. He told members of the Temple Emmanu-El Brotherhood that for years the publicly owned network enjoyed a “near monopoly'' in much of the country and as a resuit had to offer programs ranging from “Beverly Hillbillies to Cinderellas or from Abbot and Costello to Man Alive.” However, from now on, the choice of 20 to 30 stations will be the norm for television viewers in Canada, he said. “With the TV option revolution, smorgasbord programming days are ending ... for a public broadcasting system in this country.” Mr. Nash also lashed out at critics of the CBC who say it is dominated by United States programming, that it is falling behind the opposition in current affairs, and is not measuring up to foreign networks, He said CBC’s general programming is 70 per cent Canadian ana its information programming 93 per cent homegrown. The CBC provides more information programming apart from newscasts than any other network on the continent, he said.
