Henkelman of Swan River, Manitoba 7432 DEATHS BALANYK — Passed away in the city on Tuesday, January 22, 1974, Mr. Alex Balanyk at the age of 81 years of 712 • 1st Avenue South. Boro and raised in the Ukraine, the late Mr. Balanyk came to Canada in 1912 to Alberta. He was employed with the C.P.R. in Lethbridge, and worked in the Lethbridge district until his retirement in 1955. He is survived by one sister and two nephews in the Ukraine. Prayers will be said on Thursday, January 24, 1974 at 7:00 p.m. in Martin Bros. MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 70313th Street North. Requiem mass will be said on Friday, January 25, 1974 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, with Father L. Syvenkey officiatihg. Boro and raised in Mount Pleasant, Utah, the late Mr. Barter received his education in the U.S.A., England and Canada; served with the Canadian Armed Forces overseas in both the First and Second World Wars. He worked for the C.P.R. as telegrapher for thirty years in Alberta, retiring in 1950 to Lethbridge, where he has resided until his passing. He is survived by two sons, Mr. Jack K. Barter of Victoria, B.C., Mr. Sanford Barter of Seattle, Washington; three daughters, Billie Patricia of Yakinta, Washington, Colleen of Vancouver, B.C., Mavis of Calgary; ten grandchildren. LTD., Directors of Funeral Service C6844 TANNER — Monday, January 21, 1974, LeRoy “B”, aged 71 years, beloved husband of Mrs. Mary Tanner of 929 40th Street S.W., Calgary. Born at Cardston, Alberta, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1922 and resided there until moving to Edmonton in 1952 and then to Calgary in 1953. He owned and operated Tanner’s Insurance Agencies. In his youth, Mr. Tanner was very active in athletics and later coached many basketball and baseball teams. He was active in the Lions Club of Salt Lake City and served as President and then Assistant District Governor. Mr. Tanner was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served as Bishop of the Calgary First Ward and since 1961 had been Patriarch in the Calgary Stake. Besides his wife, Mr. Tanner is survived by a sou and daughter-in-law, Howard L. and Nontia Tanner of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren; three brothers, President N. Eldon Tanner and Hugh H. Tanner, both of Salt Lake City; Irwin, Twin Falls, Idaho; three sisters, Mrs. Stephen (Evelyn) Moore, Mrs. Lee (Lily) Foote and Mrs. Dallas (Beth) Adams, all of Salt Lake City. He was predeceased by his dau^ter, Elise in l«6l and his first wife, Ida, in 1970. Mr. Darby was born in Hockworthy Devonshire, England on November 10, 1881. He grew up in England and left for South Africa in 1904, where he worked in the Gold Mines. He later Joined the British South Africa Police Force. He came to Canada in 1907 and farmed in the Cardston District until retiring in 1949, when he moved into Cardston. He leaves to mourn his passing, besides his loving wife, Fanny Elizabeth, two sons, Louis of Cardston, and Ralph of Edmonton; five grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the St. Andrew’s United Church In Cardston at 2:00 p.m. on Friday Jan. 25, 1974, with Rev. James Ruxton officiating. Intennent will follow in the Cardston Cemetery, Friends may meet the family and pay their respects from 1:00 p,m. until prior to the service at the Salmon Funeral Home. No flowers by special request.
