One Month for Petty Theft Two hours before the theft of the grip was reported to the police, Dan McDougall was arrested on suspicion by the police, and locked in the cells. The grip was in his 'possession at the time, and when F. J. Madigan came to the station to report the theft, he identified it as his own. It was stolen from the waiting room of one of the hotels. Lemon, local agent for the government telephone system, returned .from'.a month's absence in Ontario on Saturday. Through a misunderstanding ha was stated to have gone away for reasons of health. Su6h, however, was not'the case, the trip being entirely a holiday one. Lethbridge Impresses' Him J. K. Pickett, general manager of the Imperial Life Assurauce 'Co. of Canada, was in ~ the city yesterday from Toronto, conferring with this company's local agents. Mr. Pickett thinks highly'of Lethbridge and predicts that success in an industrial way is not far off. lie is so impressed with the city that he intends establishing a permanent agency of the Imperial Life Assurance Co. here. E $26,495 IN YEAR STREET RAILWAY DOES NOT PAY AND SUPERINTENDENT MAKES SOME IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS Tip to the Council The following from, the latest edition of the Homestead, published in Edmonton, may give the city council another clue to -follow in its campaign for new industries: "Medicine Hat, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge and possibly Moose Jaw, are to get branch t'aclorhs of the Alberta and Saskatchewan Straw Paper Products Co.. Ltd., according to a recent statement of the secretary. Build lug paper, boxes and other material turned out will utilize the wheat straw of the farmers' fields." - Xo mention of such an industry has ever been made in 'Lethbridge, although the Board of Trade last year considered at different times "the possibilities of a factory for utilizing the waste flax straw. CITY AND DISTRICT Mr. Haag In Town George Haag, the Calgary turf magnate, is in (he city today conferring with the Lethbridge Exhibition Board officials. That is the situation, but Superintendent Woodroofe is not at all discouraged. He is prepared with suggestions. The most profitable of these tentative changes in the administration of the system is a straight five-cent fare be charged, except during limited hours, when the yellow labor tickets of eight for a quarter, would still be available. Several 'ways are suggested to increase, the earnings by increasing the rates. These tentative proposals arc as follows: 1. Charge uniform rate of five cents straight, with the four, privileges. ," 2. Do away with yellow labor tickets. . 3. Do away with the blue dollar book of tickets. �1. Do away with the transfer prlv lieges. 5. Do away with red and blue tickets, also cut down children's tickets to ten for 25 cents.
