RAISE PETROLEUM PRICE New York, Jan. 21.-The Standard Oil company of New York today announced an advance of 25 points In refined petroleum In coses for export, making the price 1R.75 cents a gallon. A recent^ press dtapatch informs ub that the forms for return under the Dominion Income Tax Act will shortly be distributed. Still more recently, a deputation of representatives of Alberta municipalities waited upon the provincial cabinet and requested power to impose a civic income tax. The question of permitting municipalities to Impose such a tax Is now under consideration. It la also rumored that the provincial government will Introduce a provincial Income tax act nt the coming session. It all the taxes materialize, the people of the city of Edmonton will have three sets of income tax to pay this year, so that the queation of Income tax la of very considerable interest to Uulletfn roaderH. The Dominion Income Tax Act pro- i vldes that every person liable to taxation shall'on or before the 28th day of February in each ye^r, without any notice or demand, deliver to the minister of financo a return ol iua total income during the last preceding calendar year. Upon receipt of this return, the minister ehall on or before the 30th day of April in each upon which has been withheld for payment at the source of the Income. Rate of Taxation The rate of taxation is as follows: (a). Four per cent upon all income exceeding $1,500 in the case of unmarried persons and widows or widowers without dependent children and ex- cee&ng V3,00U in the case of all other persons.
