Lethbridge Herald, The (Newspaper) - January 17, 1975, Lethbridge, Alberta Page 8 Ask Dick Kleiner Fluctuating Vicki DEAR DICK: Why has Vickl Lawrence, of The Carol Burnett Show, suddenly changed her appearance? Her hair is atrocious and she's gained so much weight. What's her problem? INTERESTED VIEWER, Mobile, Ala. Well, she recently got married, if that's a problem. She made the change in her hair style adopting a fuzzy natural without consulting anybody on the show. It's her per- sonal taste surfacing, that's all. Her weight, her friends say, always has fluctuated. It's just fluc- tuating up these days, maybe since she became Mrs. Al Schultz. Her new husband is the show's make-up man. DEAR DICK: I am a "Gone With the Wind" fan and I recently heard that it was going to be on TV. Is this true? If it is, will it ever come back to theaters again? S. D., New Orleans, La. Yes, it's true. NBC bought the right to show it on TV once from MGM for a reported million. But the deal was for just one showing; in effect, NBC simply rented it. The studio retains ownership and, presumably, will re- release it again for theatrical showing. DEAR DICK: Can you please tell me how old John Denver's adopted son is? MARYLOU1SE PERRY, San Diego, Calif. Zachary, Denver's adopted son, is now six months old. DEAR DICK: Can you give me some information North SIM Only 516-13th St. North Phone 327-4855 Try our... H., Oklahoma City, Okla. That's that fine character Ed Lauter. He's a New Yorker, the son of a Broadway actress named Sally Lee. He was in the Broadway production of "The Great White then came west and has been very busy. You could have seen him in such movies as "The New Centurions" and "Lol- ly Madonna." DEAR DICK: Recently on TV I saw the old movie, "Little Women." My hus- band and I disagree about who one of the players was. I say Elizabeth Taylor was in it, but he says she wasn't even in the movie. And was Myrna Loy the mother? MRS. R. B., Pilot Rock, Ore. Another victory for the ladies. That 1948 movie starred Elizabeth Taylor, June Allyson, Janet Leigh and Margaret O'Brien as the girls, with Mary Astor as their mother. It was directed by Mervyn LeRoy, one of Hollywood's all-time greats. DEAR DICK: 1 would like to know who played the father in the Lancer series. Was It Lelf Erickson or Andrew Duggu? H. W. S., S. Burlington, Vt. It was Andrew Duggan. DEAR DICK: I have been watching The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bob Newhart Show for two years. In all that time I couldn't help wondering are Bob Newhart and Lee Majors related? STEPHEN BECK, Attleboro, Mass. No, they're not. DEAR DICK: I think McCloud is the belt show on TV. Would yoa please tell me about J. D. Can- non? How tall, weight, etc. What kind of or does he drive? Cannon, who-plays the police chief in McCloud, comes from Salmon, Ida. He's listed as six feet tall, 185 pounds, but be seems shorter and lighter In per- son. In his garage you will find a '68 Mercedes Benz and a '64 Buick Riviera not all Hollywood stars "Parts For All Appliances" Your parts headquarters for all of Southern Alberta, call Jimmy nt FAIRFIELD APPLIANCE SERVICES LTD. 1211 3rd AVI S Phone3Z7-6661 drive brand new, fancy cars, obviously. DEAR DICK: Could you tell me where Lowell Thomas broadcasts from? He is a newscaster and has been lor years. RICHARD RUSK, Vlcksburg, Miss. Lowell Thomas, who still sounds the same as he always did, is 82 and keeps up with his daily CBS radio newscast. But he doesn't come into the studio any more. They have arranged for him to broadcast from his home in Pawling, N.Y. So long until the next question. DEAR DICK: I heard Susan Hayward died of cancer. Is It true? LANEY BURKE, John- stown, N.Y. No, it's not. Miss Hayward is having her physical problems but she's still battling bravely. DEAR DICK: I watched a movie called "The Parent Trap" the other night and I was wondering if you could tell me how old Haylcy Mills was when she starred in that movie and how old she is now. PAT DODD, Fairhope, Ala. Hayley was 15 when "The Parent Trap" was made in 1961. That would: make her 28 now. Time sure flies when you're hav- ing fun, DEAR DICK: In the middle or late 'Hi there was the movie, "Seatiinen- tal with John Payne and Maureen O'Hara. Who wit the child star? Was it Margaret O'Brien? LAURA SIGLER, Cymreu, Calif. No, it wasn't tear stain- ed Margaret. It was a young actress named Con- nie Marshall and she hasn't been heard iron since. The film was released in 1946, by the way. DEAR DICK: Who sang the song at Ike beglmning of the series, The New Land? It sounds like .Jajn Denver but, if it Is, don't they have to give him credit? GINGER WALKER, Her- miston, Ore. John Denver did write and sing the song. And he got credit for it. ABC made a big announcement about it at the time he was first signed to do it. DEAR DICK: My sister- in law and I differ as to where Lynda Day George was born. Was it Phoenix, Ariz., or Carl Junction, Mo.? R. C., Galena, Kan. Chalk up one for nobody. Lynda was born in San Marcos, Tex. After a childhood spent in various towns in Oklahoma and Missouri (but not Carl she went to high school in Phoenix, so maybe that's where you got confused. DEAR DICK: I think that Joanna Pettet, who was on ABC's Pioneer Woman, is the most strikingly beautiful woman I have seen. When will we be seeing more of her? RICHARD JENKINS, Golden City, Mo. She sure is a sight for well eyes, isn't she? Joanna says that Pioneer Woman, which was a pilot, lost out to The New Land, so maybe she wasn't so un- lucky, at thai. The New Land bombed. Anyhow, Joanna is very active these days, doing many guest shots. She stars in a com- ing two parter on Harry 0, for example. DEAR In the middle or late '40s there was the movie, Sentimen- tal Journey. John Payne was the male star and Maureen O'Hara was the female star. Who was the child star? I think it was Margaret O'Brien. Am I right or wrong? LAURA SIGLER, Cypress, Calif. Wrong. According to an old synopsis, the part of the child was played by Connie Marshall, a name I must admit is unfamiliar to me. But Margaret O'Brien's name does not appear on the cast list nor does the name of any other recognizable child star. DEAR DICK: Whatever happened to Batman Adam West and Burt Ward and Yvonne Craig? BRIAN CORONA, Oneida, N.Y. Batman is alive and do- ing very well. Adam West has made two movies recently "Partisan" and "The Lawyers" which are both awaiting release. He recently guested on TV's Emergency! Burt Ward is in real estate. Yvonne is still acting. DEAR DICK: Where can the piano music be purchased that was com- posed and played by jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi for the TV specials "Charlie Brown's and "There's No Time for MRS. PAUL W. WATSON, Kingwood, W. Va. The music was published by Vince's own publishing company, Shifty Felfar Music. You'll have to ask your local music store to order it for you. The music from "Charlie Brown's Christmas" is, .inciden- tally, available in an album by that title.
