Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - January 16, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta Saturday, January 16, 1971 - THE UTHBRIDGE HERAID - 9 Calgary-going to troops Cyprus OTTAWA (CP) - The Calgary-based 1st battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, is going to Cyprus. Defence headquarters announced Friday that in March the unit will replace PPCLI's 3rd battalion stationed in the Mediterranean island with the United Nations peacekeeping force. The UN mandate in Cyprus was recently extended to June 15. Canadian troops have formed part of the international contingent since it first went to the island in. 1964. They are rotated twice yearly. The first of 490 soldiers from Calgary base will be flown to Cyprus by Yukon aircraft March 22. Final flight in the airlift will leave Canada March 30. The battalion being replaced will return to the Esquimalt, B.C., base. The 3rd Battalion is commanded by Lt.-Col. T. M. Mar-saw, 39, of London, Ont., the 1st Battalion by U.-C01. W. E. J. Strom not too concerned about arms on our soil Teacher to run in election RED DEER (CP) - James Keegstra, 36, an Eckville teacher, says he will run as an independent in the next provincial election in Rocky Mountain House constituency. Mr. Keegstra said that he was urged to seek election "by a large body of Social Credit people throughout the riding." He was defeated in a bid for the Social Credit nomination by Paul Jenson, 32, of Benalto at a meeting Dec. 11. While the Social Credit government's mandate runs until 1972, an election is expected this year. THICKER THAN WATER? PAVJ.A, Italy (Reuter) -Four officials of a local blood bank have been sentenced to jail for supplying Pavia's main hospital with watered-down blood. The four were convicted after a 10-week trial. This allows people to drive their car into the building before getting out. All the instruction for the maintenance of the vehicle is done inside. Since the reception area is between the maintenance area and the showroom - sales area, it acts as a buffer to help eliminate noise. The total service building has been adopted by Ford of Canada as a model for future dealerships across Canada. Mr. Dunlop said the reason for such an extensive building is the increase in growth and volume because of the reception of the people of south Alberta to his firm. He said volume business' has increased 10 times since he first started in Lethbridge six years ago. "I forecast future progress when the economy will be back to the 196749 level or even higher," he said. "We have estimated, in the next three years, sales rates will be increased 30 to 40 per cent." Mr. Dunlop has been in the automotive business for 20 years, six years as owner of his own business in Lethbridge. Born in Saskatoon, he is married and has two boys and one girl. He started in the automotive business as a service control tower manager and worked as a used car salesman, an accountant, and a general sales manager, before entering the business for himself. i "We feel we have fulfilled the obligations to the area by building a complex which is esthe-tically good looking," he said. "With a hedge and plants on the property and the rest of the land covered with asphalt, the total area will be neat at all times." STETTLER (CP) - Premier Harry Strom says he would not be "too concerned" if it became necessary to install North American Air Defence systems on Canadian soil. Mr. Strom, speaking at a Social Credit party banquet in this community 90 miles southeast of Edmonton, said any NORAD project involves all of North America not just the United S'cates or Canada. To contact Olson COALDALE (HNS) - The town will correspond with federal Minister of Agriculture Bud Olson to pursue the possibility of receiving financial assistance for the removal of irrigation ditches in the town, Location of such installations should be determined in the best interests of protection for the whole area, he said. Speaking on his recent trip to NORAD headquarters in Colorado, the premier said he was impressed with the teamwork between the United States and Canada in air defence.
