Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper) - January 15, 1971, Lethbridge, Alberta THE LETHBRIDGE HERALD - FRIDAY, JANUARY 15, 1971 The cookie-mooching bear , One-time idea pays off HOLLYWOOD (NBC)- What's it like to live the life of a famous bear? Ask Jonas Prohaska, who created the costume and gives life and voice to the cookie-mooching bear on The Andy Williams Show. Prohaska says: "I enjoy the success the bear is having on the show. The cast and crew also seem to enjoy the bear blackouts and I think Andy more than any of us. Any recognition that I get from doing it is purely incidental. I don't think of myself as a personality, but as a person who gives life to-who animates-a personality." The bear concept evolved out of a one-time idea that paid off in one of last season's earlier shows. Comedian Flip Wilson was a guest and producers Chris Beard and Allan Blye came up with the idea of inserting a bear into the act Says Beard: "The bear sort of represents a down-trodden fellow who keeps banging on the door of life, and is constantly being turned away. A social comment if you Eke. His performance on the show says something about prejudice, and rather reflects peo Tuesday, January 19 11.00 Sesame Street Another World _All My Children IB Peyton Place 11:30 ff) Beat the Clock As the World Turns Lets Make a Deal 12:00 (f) Children's Hour _.Days of Our lives QJ* Newlywed Game - SLucy Show Buckshot 0 Doctors fD News 1:00 CD Movie: Here Come the Girls Q Movie: Flame of Araby 0 Another World: Bay City 0 Secret Storm 1:30 0 Edge of Night 0 One Life 2:00 0 Gomer Pyle 0 Words and Musir 2:30 0 Mike Douglas Our Town Famous Jury Trials 0 Love Is A Many Splendored Thing I Take 30 i Dark Shadows I Another World Edge of Night i General Hospital Trouble With Tracy Galloping Gourmet 0 Hillbillies (SB That Girl 0 I Dream of Jeannie 4:30 O Banana Splits 0 Crcmkite News 0 Bewitched 0 Wynne's Pad 3:00 3:30 4:00 i 5:00 Q Spiderman News Dating Game Flintstones 5:30 (2) Teleprooe 7 ~ Hillbillies News D Dick Van Dyke 6:00 0 Governor and J. We received such a hearty response from that first performance, that we decided to make it a regular part of the show." "Despite the bear's plight," says Prohaska, "he's still a funny character. He's contemporary - he's now and that's what makes him interesting. His plight just seems to add to his believable qualities." He constructs many of his own creations in the workshop of his Santa Monica, Calif., home. When he completes a costume, he submits photographs of the design to television and movie companies for possible use. Having performed since the age of 12 as an acrobat in Budapest, Hungary, Prohaska now prefers to tinker in his. shop rather than be in show business. "If Andy's show hadn't come along I would have given up performing to concentrate on my inventions, he says. OUR JANUARY Clearance OF ALL Snowmobiles IS ON NOW! The first and shorter work on the program is a dance inter-pretation of Tcbaikowsky's Fantasy Overture to Romeo and Juliet, featuring two young members of t h e Bolsboi, supported by an all-male corps de ballet. This film from Russia runs about 20 minutes, and is directed by R. Fedina. The remainder of the program offers another filmed ballet, this one the Maurice Befart version of Stravinsky's exciting Le Sacre Du Printemps (Rite of Spring). This color production is from BETA Films (Munich) and Artium Summa, Brussels. Though both ballets celebrate the theme of love, the program offers a startling study in contrast, between the classical and modern dance forms the romantic and the primitive approaches to love.
