''Something Northern enters our_ Canadian psyche," says CBC producer Vincent ToveQ," "and the emotional artistic response to the physical geography of Canada goes back far beyond the Group of Seven". Tovell has put together a program for CBC television which visually, and through prose, poetry and the spoken word suggests that our artists- writers, painters and musicians -have always been profoundly affected by the Canadian wilderness. Entitled Roots, the program is a special hour-long edition of the Man at the Centre series and will be telecast a color Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 10:00 pm. on CBC-TV, preempting This Land. Through two National Finn Board films and a special CBC production (based on award-winning poet Margaret At-wood's book The Journals of Susanna Moodie) viewers wdl share with so many of our sxt-fats in what Tovell terms "a special way of looking at Canada". Margaret Atwood has been the winner of two Governor-General Awards for her writing and is the author of the current novel The Edible Women.
